Transmission Analyst
Overview
A growing energy infrastructure and development platform is seeking a Transmission Analyst to support grid analysis and interconnection strategy across a portfolio of large-scale energy and infrastructure projects.
This role provides direct exposure to how power system constraints, transmission dynamics, and market conditions impact siting decisions, project economics, and overall development strategy. The position focuses on utility-scale solar, energy storage, and large-load (e.g., data center) projects, typically in the 100-300 MW+ range.
The Transmission Analyst will work with advanced modeling tools and datasets to evaluate grid feasibility, identify risks, and support investment decisions.
Role Summary
The Transmission Analyst performs power system modeling, transmission analytics, and interconnection feasibility assessments, while partnering closely with development, finance, and commercial teams.
This is a highly analytical role with a strong commercial linkage, helping shape "go/no-go" decisions and optimize project strategy based on grid conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Grid Analytics
- Perform power flow and contingency (N-1) analysis to evaluate interconnection feasibility and system reliability
- Analyze transmission system conditions to identify constraints, congestion, and risks
- Monitor trends across major U.S. power markets (e.g., ISO/RTO regions)
Strategic Siting & Interconnection
- Identify optimal Points of Interconnection (POIs) based on:
- Grid congestion
- Curtailment risk
- Estimated network upgrade costs
- Support siting and sizing decisions for renewable and high-load infrastructure projects
Data & Automation
- Work with large datasets to analyze grid conditions and market dynamics
- Utilize automation and analytical tools to improve efficiency and scalability of workflows
Commercial & Development Support
- Translate technical findings into clear, actionable insights for:
- Project development
- Commercial strategy
- Investment decision-making
- Support early-stage screening and due diligence by identifying project risks and "fatal flaws"
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, development, finance, and commercial teams
- Assist in preparing technical reports, presentations, and investment materials
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field
- 1-3 years of experience in energy, power systems, or a related field
- Familiarity with U.S. electricity markets (e.g., ISO/RTO environments)
- Exposure to power system modeling tools such as:
- PSS®E
- TARA
- PowerWorld (or similar)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Experience working with large datasets and advanced Excel skills
- Ability to identify system constraints and project risks early in development
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Hands-on experience with transmission planning or interconnection analysis
- Familiarity with multiple U.S. markets (ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP, etc.)
- Experience in renewable energy development, grid analytics, or infrastructure projects
