Role Overview

A well-established engineering firm is seeking an experienced Transmission Line Design Engineer to support overhead transmission projects up to 345 kV. This individual will work closely with engineering leadership and project teams, taking ownership of design deliverables from concept through construction support.

This role is ideal for a self-directed engineer who enjoys technical problem-solving, collaboration, and contributing to high-quality utility infrastructure projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze overhead transmission lines, including clearances, structure spotting, and structural analysis using industry-standard tools
  • Perform or support structure and foundation design calculations
  • Lead design tasks independently and manage technicians on larger project efforts
  • Develop material lists, construction bid packages, and support cost estimating
  • Travel to project sites to gather field data, assess existing assets, and provide technical guidance as needed
  • Maintain working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards (e.g., NESC, RUS, ASCE)
  • Prepare, review, and seal engineering documents and drawings where applicable
  • Support proposal development, including scope definition and cost estimates
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships
  • Identify opportunities to support additional project needs and services
  • Collaborate across internal teams and stay informed on industry and client developments

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • 5+ years of experience in electric utility transmission line design
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred; EIT considered with intent to obtain PE
  • Experience with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, or similar transmission design tools
  • Familiarity with foundation design concepts and software (e.g., MFAD, LPILE) preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel approximately 30% annually
  • Detail-oriented, safety-focused, and solutions-driven mindset
  • Experience with additional tools such as PoleForeman or SPIDACalc is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required; Office 365 and SharePoint experience preferred
