Traveling Project Director (Aviation)
Role Summary
The Project Director provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for a designated portfolio of construction projects across all phases of the project lifecycle. This role is responsible for ensuring excellence in execution, financial performance, team development, and stakeholder engagement. The Project Director drives contracting strategy, risk management, and client relationships to meet or exceed contractual and financial goals.

Core Responsibilities
Strategic & Operational Leadership
- Oversees all phases of assigned projects or programs, ensuring alignment with company strategy and key success indicators.
- Develops and executes strategic business plans for the work program.
Safety Culture
- Leads safety initiatives and fosters a culture of injury prevention through personal example and team mentorship.
- Investigates incidents and ensures corrective actions and retraining are implemented.
Corporate & Strategic Contributions
- Supports senior leadership in developing company-wide strategies and best practices.
- Provides strategic direction to project teams in alignment with broader organizational goals.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serves as the primary executive contact for clients, building long-term relationships and identifying future business opportunities.
- Guides project teams in client engagement strategies and ensures consistent communication.
Risk & Issue Management
- Acts as the escalation point for project, financial, contractual, and client-related risks.
- Leads negotiations on change orders, contingency use, and fee adjustments.
- Conducts risk assessments and collaborates with leadership to resolve issues.
Subcontractor Strategy
- Builds strong relationships with subcontractors to ensure alignment with project goals and company standards.
- Leads the selection and strategy for subcontractor engagement across the work program.
Preconstruction Leadership
- Leads preconstruction efforts including estimating, scheduling, constructability reviews, and staffing plans.
- Collaborates with internal and external partners to define contractual obligations and project scope.
Project Oversight
- Ensures all aspects of project and schedule review are executed effectively throughout the lifecycle.
- Holds teams accountable for meeting contractual and performance expectations.
Resource Planning
- Ensures appropriate staffing levels based on project needs and contractual commitments.
- Adjusts resource plans as needed to maintain project momentum and quality.
Industry & Community Engagement
- Represents the organization in industry forums, boards, and community initiatives.
- Promotes the company's interests and builds external relationships to support business development.
Culture & Inclusion
- Leads and promotes a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion across teams.

Qualifications
Skills & Abilities
- Advanced communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and construction management software.
- Deep understanding of project lifecycle processes and risk management.
- Expertise in Lean construction principles and estimating methodologies.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to manage budgets and drive profitability.
- Knowledge of MBE, WBE, and SBA regulations.
- Ability to build and lead high-performing teams and collaborate across departments.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
- 15+ years of construction management experience preferred.
- Minimum 5+ years of people management experience required.
- Proven success in leading multiple large or complex projects and teams.
- Required: Experience managing aviation projects valued at $50M+.
Working Conditions
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Willingness to travel overnight as needed.
- Flexibility to work non-traditional hours based on project demands.
- Primarily office-based with occasional exposure to job site conditions.
