VP of Transportation

This leadership role is focused on managing highway and roadway projects for a major transportation agency within Texas. The successful candidate will oversee project execution, lead business development efforts, and cultivate strong relationships with public sector clients. The role includes strategic planning, staff mentorship, and active participation in industry organizations.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead transportation infrastructure projects, ensuring quality, scope compliance, and profitability.
  • Develop and negotiate scopes, budgets, and schedules; review contract terms.
  • Monitor project progress, including monthly invoicing and reporting.
  • Recruit, manage, and mentor engineering staff to ensure high performance.
  • Conduct business development activities and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Represent the firm in meetings with transportation authorities, municipalities, and counties.
  • Participate in professional organizations such as ACEC, ASCE, and PSPE.
  • Contribute to annual business planning and strategic marketing initiatives.

Key Leadership Duties:

  • Actively pursue new business opportunities and contribute to office sales goals.
  • Lead proposal development and win strategies for new projects.
  • Serve as Principal-in-Charge for transportation projects in the designated market.
  • Ensure adherence to internal quality management systems and project planning protocols.
  • Review project metrics and ensure client satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with project managers to resolve performance issues and maintain profitability.
  • Oversee staff deliverables to ensure compliance with client, legal, and company standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Active PE registration in Texas.
  • Minimum of 20 years of experience in transportation engineering, with a focus on TxDOT projects.
  • Proven success in roadway design and securing public sector work.
  • Experience with Design-Build delivery methods.
  • TxDOT certifications required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation.
  • Strong business development background and market knowledge.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
