A leading engineering, procurement, and construction firm specializing in providing innovative and sustainable solutions is looking for an EHS Specialist. The Construction & Operations Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist will offer both administrative support and on-site safety coordination for renewable construction projects. They will assist the EHS Manager in creating EHS programs and procedures to ensure comprehensive oversight of all construction aspects within the renewables division. Additionally, they will develop standard safety methods and procedures to improve the consistency, quality, safety, and efficiency of the construction projects.
EHS Specialist Responsibilities:
- Deliver services according to project scope and ensure a compliant, productive, and efficient construction safety environment.
- Ensure all contractors meet the company's minimum safety and environmental standards.
- Coordinate daily safety activities, supporting operations and construction teams.
- Contribute to establishing a structured health and safety ownership and accountability program by standardizing and clearly communicating safety regulations.
- Maintain and update environmental compliance for hazardous waste, stormwater, and air permits.
- Provide oversight for worker's compensation case management.
- Complete job assessments for physical demands development.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on safety best practices across all construction sites.
- Develop and maintain safety procedures, guidelines, and standards aligned with the Renewables Operations group.
- Assist in planning and implementing safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal EPA/OSHA regulations, as well as international regulations.
- Perform risk assessments and implement control measures.
- Conduct noise assessments and solvent IH sampling.
- Perform PPE risk assessments and create task matrices.
- Generate fall protection procedures, risk assessments, and inspections.
- Write LOTO and confined space machine-specific procedures.
- Update SDS as needed.
- Provide solutions to complex environmental, safety, health, and security issues as a safety leader.
- Drive continuous improvement through safety analyses, audits, and investigations.
- Participate in project meetings and customer project review meetings.
- Assist the EHS Manager in developing safety-related training and procedures.
- Ability to travel domestically at least 75% of the time.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of safety regulations.
- Possess a high-level understanding of construction project scopes, finances, and schedules.
EHS Specialist Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in EHS, Safety Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or a minimum of three (3) years of experience in Construction Safety is required.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a construction setting is preferred.
- Experience troubleshooting and resolving issues on-site is required.
- Decision-Making & Problem-Solving:
- Ability to make authoritative decisions and recommendations that significantly impact the outcome of project installation activities.
- Ability to negotiate critical and controversial issues with the executive team, engineers, and managers of other organizations and companies, requiring skills in persuasion and negotiation.
- Individuals at this level demonstrate mature judgment in planning, organizing, and guiding construction safety programs.
