Summary: A Leading engineering services company is seeking an experienced Protection and Controls Engineer on-site in Houston, TX to assist in providing engineering solutions for utility transmission and distribution systems, working with voltage levels from 5 kV to 765 kV.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create detailed designs for substation and/or protection & control projects.
- Develop and revise one-line and three-line diagrams, protective relaying and control schematics, AC and DC schematics, wiring diagrams, panel front views, equipment layouts and sections, cable and conduit schedules, SCADA systems, and bills of material in accordance with Utility Client Procedures.
- Conduct calculations for various studies and reports, such as AC and DC system sizing, conduit fill, voltage drop, CT saturation, Arc Flash analysis, etc.
- Draft equipment specifications for procurement purposes.
- Carry out quality assurance reviews of substation project documentation.
- Follow all Utility Client Procedures, including those related to CAD and documentation formatting.
- Supervise the project execution team, including junior engineers, designers, and drafters.
- Maintain effective and professional communication with project teams, customer representatives, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard of quality.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering
- Professional Engineering (PE) License required
- At least 10 years of experience in designing utility substations and protection & control systems
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities
- Experience in developing relay settings is advantageous
- Familiarity with ETAP, ASPEN, or PSEE is preferred
