Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the development, management, and operation of data centers, ensuring compliance with established practices, procedures, and local legislation.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners to influence, resolve conflicts, and drive alignment and consensus, positively impacting team execution of strategy.
- Participate in data center engineering design to ensure project success and competitive advantage through optimal design and equipment selection.
- Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on all aspects of critical facility infrastructure development, operations, and maintenance.
- Develop and maintain documentation relevant to business and facility operations.
- Manage routine maintenance and emergency services on critical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, and building monitoring systems.
- Assist in the design, implementation, commissioning, and build-out of new facilities.
- Serve as the technical lead for design and consultancy, supporting the procurement of critical facility components.
- Drive and implement projects to enhance facility capacity, efficiency, sustainability, and reliability.
- Manage infrastructure and inventory asset management within the data center.
- Resolve infrastructure engineering issues within the data center.
- Deliver exceptional customer service and satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline, preferably in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering.
- Over 5 years of experience in critical facility engineering and/or operations.
- Extensive knowledge of data center facilities, including generators, chillers, cooling towers, air handling units, UPS, electrical sub-distribution systems, fire detection and suppression systems, and cable reticulation systems.
- Deep understanding of the topology of critical systems and local best practices for data center design, construction, and operation.
- Familiarity with local regulations and codes, and an understanding of the local context for data center design, construction, and operation.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical details to all organizational levels and external stakeholders.
- Proven experience in managing major facilities incidents.
- Excellent bilingual verbal and written communication skills (English and Japanese).
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in technical, schedule, cost, and quality management.
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a complex, fast-paced environment.
- Strong customer service skills and effective communication with clients and customers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer License or equivalent.
- Experience managing mission-critical facilities for a large enterprise or colocation provider.
- International data center engineering experience.
- Knowledge of IT services, including servers, networks, cabling, and platforms.
- Understanding of data center safety and physical security.
