Position Summary:
Seeking a highly skilled and motivated Highway Engineer to join a civil engineering team in Dallas, TX. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the planning, design, and oversight of highway and roadway infrastructure projects across the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. This role requires a deep understanding of transportation engineering principles, roadway design standards, and local, state, and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and supporting the design of highway and roadway projects, including new construction, rehabilitation, and expansion.
  • Preparing geometric layouts, horizontal and vertical alignments, cross-sections, and grading plans.
  • Conducting feasibility studies, traffic impact analyses, and route selection studies.
  • Utilizing advanced design software such as MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and InRoads.
  • Ensuring compliance with TxDOT (Texas Department of Transportation), AASHTO, FHWA, and local municipal standards.
  • Developing and reviewing engineering reports, technical memoranda, and design calculations.
  • Preparing construction documents including plans, specifications, and cost estimates (PS&E).
  • Coordinating with CAD technicians and junior engineers to ensure accuracy and completeness of design deliverables.
  • Submitting permit applications and coordinating with regulatory agencies for environmental and construction approvals.
  • Assisting in managing project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Coordinating with clients, contractors, subconsultants, and government agencies.
  • Participating in project meetings, public hearings, and stakeholder engagement sessions.
  • Monitoring project progress and providing technical guidance to ensure timely and quality delivery.
  • Conducting site visits to assess existing conditions, collect data, and verify design assumptions.
  • Overseeing construction activities to ensure adherence to design specifications and safety standards.
  • Addressing field issues and providing engineering solutions during construction.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Transportation Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Texas (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in highway or roadway design, preferably in Texas.
  • Proficiency in roadway design software (e.g., MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D).
  • Familiarity with traffic modeling tools (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM) is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of TxDOT design criteria and PS&E preparation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
