The Role
We are seeking someone passionate about structural engineering and problem solving.
Our Washington, D.C. Structures Division provides structural engineering services with an emphasis on new design, repair and rehabilitation of existing structures, and investigation and performance evaluation. We employ innovative approaches to design, analysis, and project management, supported by in-house laboratory capabilities for material, mechanical, and environmental testing. This combination of experience and technical capability positions our team as a leading provider of engineering services.
The Washington, D.C. Structures Division is currently seeking a senior structural engineer
- Conduct structural evaluation, design, and investigative work
- Perform and review analysis and design calculations
- Manage the preparation of drawings and specifications
- Manage project budgets and schedules
- Assist with mentoring junior staff
- Interact directly with clients
- Support and manage projects during construction
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, technically adept, and ready to take on a leadership role within project teams while continuing to grow project management skills.
What You'll Be Doing
- Work on a wide range of structural analysis and design projects involving steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures
- Apply a variety of building codes in design and analysis tasks
- Assist with preparation of drawings, specifications, and technical reports
- Support construction administration, including bid assistance, submittal review, site meetings, and field observations
- Plan and conduct site investigations to document existing conditions
- Mentor and develop less experienced engineers
- Interact with project clients
- Support proposal development, project scoping, and coordination of internal resources
- Collaborate with senior staff on strategic initiatives, technical standards, and staff training
- Pursue professional activities to gain industry recognition
What You'll Need
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in structural analysis and design of concrete, steel, masonry, and wood structures
- Strong understanding of material behavior and performance
- PE license required; progress toward or interest in SE licensure is a plus
- Strong working knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, TMS, NDS, and related codes
- Proficiency with structural analysis and design tools such as RAM, RISA, ETABS, SAP2000, and Revit
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to meet deadlines
- Proactive, team-oriented mindset with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Willingness and ability to travel to job sites not accessible by public transportation, with an acceptable motor vehicle record where applicable
