Superintendent - Mechanical Construction

Location: Charleston, South Carolina

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Superintendent to oversee field operations for commercial construction projects in the Charleston, SC region. This role is responsible for leading mechanical scopes (HVAC, piping, plumbing coordination) while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards.

The Superintendent will play a key leadership role on-site, coordinating with project management, subcontractors, and clients to drive successful project execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day field operations for mechanical and MEP-related construction activities
• Coordinate HVAC, piping, and plumbing subcontractors to ensure alignment with overall project schedule
• Develop and manage short-term schedules, look-ahead plans, and manpower coordination
• Ensure work is executed in accordance with project drawings, specifications, and quality standards
• Collaborate closely with Project Managers to maintain budget, schedule, and project milestones
• Identify and proactively resolve field issues, conflicts, and coordination challenges
• Conduct site walks to monitor progress, safety compliance, and workmanship
• Enforce all safety standards and ensure adherence to OSHA and company policies
• Facilitate subcontractor meetings and coordinate inspections with local authorities
• Review and manage RFIs, change orders, and field documentation in collaboration with the project team
• Oversee commissioning readiness and support system start-up and turnover
• Manage punch lists and ensure successful project closeout

Qualifications

• 5-10+ years of experience in construction, with a strong focus on mechanical/MEP systems
• Proven experience as a Superintendent on commercial or industrial projects
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical piping, and coordination of trades
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules
• Demonstrated leadership and ability to manage multiple subcontractors on-site
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, and field coordination
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency with construction management tools and software (Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, etc.) preferred
• OSHA 30 certification (or willingness to obtain)

Preferred Experience

• Experience delivering projects in healthcare, higher education, industrial, or large-scale commercial sectors
• Familiarity with the Charleston construction market, codes, and permitting processes
• Background working with general contractors on design-build or negotiated projects
• Experience coordinating complex MEP systems across multiple trades
