About the Company

Our client is a nationally recognized civil engineering firm with roots in the Midwest and more than 60 years of industry experience. With a presence across multiple markets, including transportation, architecture, surveying, and MEP services, they are well known for their technical excellence, collaborative approach, and consistent delivery of high-quality client service. They are seeking an experienced Business Development Leader to support their Chicago operations.

This role offers the opportunity to step into a highly visible leadership position where your technical expertise, market insight, and business development skills will directly influence impactful projects and long-term client relationships. You will play a key role in shaping communities while helping to grow and strengthen a respected and established practice.


Responsibilities

  • Lead business development efforts for transportation and civil infrastructure services, driving strategic growth across municipal, DOT, and public‑sector clients
  • Maintain selective involvement in project pursuits and delivery to ensure strong alignment between technical transportation expertise and client needs
  • Set market priorities, define growth objectives, and oversee the financial performance of transportation-focused pursuits and programs
  • Serve as a senior technical and strategic resource for multi-disciplinary teams, collaborating with architects, planners, and engineers on integrated pursuits when applicable
  • Build, manage, and expand long-term client relationships, confidently leading presentations, negotiations, and strategic discussions
  • Monitor transportation market trends, funding programs, and regulatory changes to identify and capitalize on new business opportunities
  • Balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment while supporting overall firm strategy

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or Landscape Architecture
  • 8+ years of experience developing and managing a technical market or business line, including selling professional services to municipal clients in Illinois
  • Additional experience working with architectural clients is highly desirable
  • Proven success in business development, including:
    • Strategic business planning
    • Marketing initiatives
    • Client development
    • Presentation and proposal development
  • Technical project management experience is desirable
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required (AICP or PLA license where applicable)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience highly preferred
