A growing electrical equipment manufacturer is seeking a Low Voltage Electrical Design Engineer to join their on‑site engineering team in Chicago. This role is ideal for candidates who thrive in hands‑on design environments and want to directly influence the development of custom power distribution products.

About the Role
As an Electrical Design Engineer focused on low‑voltage systems, you'll support the development of custom switchgear, UL508 industrial control cabinets, and power distribution equipment. This position requires strong competency in electrical design for LV systems, along with familiarity in translating electrical requirements into manufacturable products through both 2D and 3D design collaboration.

You'll work closely with mechanical, manufacturing, and electrical engineering teams and contribute to submittals, schematics, layouts, and production support - including work related to UL508 compliance and copper layout/interface.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and revise electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and LV system layouts.
  • Collaborate on 2D and 3D design packages to ensure electrical requirements are mechanically feasible.
  • Design and support UL508 cabinets, ensuring compliance with standards and internal requirements.
  • Support copper design, including electrical ratings, clearances, and interface requirements.
  • Perform LV switchgear and power distribution design, including component selection and system integration.
  • Work closely with mechanical and manufacturing teams to ensure designs meet safety, compliance, and manufacturability needs.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of design standards and documentation.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience with electrical design tools for schematics and wiring diagrams (AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of 2D/3D design workflows and ability to collaborate with mechanical design teams.
  • Hands‑on experience with UL508 cabinet design or industrial control panels.
  • Experience supporting or designing copper layouts and LV power distribution systems.
  • Electrical engineering experience within switchgear, control panels, industrial power systems, or related fields.
  • Ability to work full‑time on‑site in Chicago.
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety, clearances, ratings, load paths, and code requirements.
