Mechanical Engineer - Mission Critical (Data Centers)

A leading engineering consultancy is looking to add a mid-level Mechanical Engineer to its growing Mission Critical team, supporting large-scale hyperscale data center and high-performance infrastructure projects. This role sits within a specialized, design-focused group, offering the agility of a smaller team with the backing of a global engineering platform.

This is a strong opportunity for a technically driven engineer (4-8 years) looking to deepen their design expertise while gaining exposure to complex, high-impact projects and increasing client interaction.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Support the design and delivery of mechanical systems for hyperscale data centers and mission critical facilities
  • Work across the full project lifecycle, from concept through construction
  • Perform and support:
    • Cooling load calculations and system sizing
    • HVAC system design (air- and liquid-cooled systems)
    • Equipment selection (CRAH/CRAC, chillers, cooling towers, pumps)
  • Develop design deliverables (layouts, schematics, construction documents) using Revit
  • Assist in developing mechanical system layouts, piping diagrams, and airflow strategies
  • Support preparation of technical specifications and design documentation
  • Participate in pre-construction efforts, including site assessments and existing conditions analysis
  • Support construction administration:
    • Submittals and shop drawing reviews
    • RFIs
    • Punch list and project closeout
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (electrical, structural, architectural)
  • Interface with clients and stakeholders on technical aspects of design
  • Design systems aligned with high-reliability, high-density environments, including redundancy strategies and thermal management requirements

What They're Looking For

  • 4-8 years of mechanical engineering experience
  • Experience in data centers, mission critical, or complex HVAC systems preferred
  • Strong understanding of:
    • HVAC and cooling systems design
    • Heat transfer, airflow management, and thermal performance
  • Familiarity with applicable building/mechanical codes and standards
  • Proficiency in Revit (AutoCAD a plus)
  • EIT required; PE (or on track) preferred

Key Traits

  • Understanding of data center cooling strategies and redundancy concepts
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to team delivery
  • Strong communication skills - comfortable engaging with clients and internal teams
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and effective in a deadline-driven environment

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base: $120K - $180K
  • Performance-based bonus
  • Full benefits package
  • Exposure to cutting-edge hyperscale and AI-driven data center projects

Why Join

  • Work within a top-tier global engineering platform with strong mission critical expertise
  • Contribute to high-profile hyperscale projects across the U.S.
  • Gain exposure to major clients and technically complex environments
  • Clear path toward technical leadership and client-facing responsibilities
