Job Title: Building Automation Systems (BAS) Estimator
Location: Remote (United States)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Building Automation Systems (BAS) Estimator to develop accurate, competitive cost estimates for HVAC controls and automation projects across commercial and mission-critical environments. This is a fully remote position supporting a systems integration team primarily serving the NYC metro area.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in BAS estimating within a systems integrator environment and understands controls scopes from concept through construction documents. This role will collaborate closely with sales, engineering, and operations teams to support projects across sectors such as commercial buildings, data centers, healthcare facilities, and higher education.
Experience with Distech Controls, Tridium (Niagara), or similar open-platform systems is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for BAS projects, including materials, labor, software, and subcontractors
- Review project documentation (drawings, specifications, sequences of operation, RFPs)
- Develop scopes of work, clarifications, assumptions, and exclusions
- Collaborate with sales, engineering, and operations to align technical and commercial requirements
- Support value engineering efforts and recommend alternative system approaches
- Evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes for completeness and competitiveness
- Assist in proposal development, including pricing summaries and technical narratives
- Maintain estimating tools, databases, and historical cost data
- Participate in project handoff meetings to ensure smooth transition to execution
- Support projects involving integration, central plant controls, and critical systems applications
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience estimating BAS or HVAC controls projects
- Strong understanding of commercial BAS systems and typical project scopes
- Experience working within a systems integrator or controls contractor environment
- Familiarity with industry protocols (e.g., BACnet, IP-based systems, open protocols)
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and control sequences
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating tools
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating with distributed teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Distech Controls, Tridium Niagara, or similar platforms
- Exposure to data center, healthcare, or other mission-critical environments
- Familiarity with integration projects, DCIM, or enterprise-level BAS solutions
- Experience with design-build and plan/spec delivery models
- Understanding of lifecycle costs, energy optimization, and system performance value
- Experience supporting proposals for large, complex, or multi-site projects
