Senior Manager, Energy Market Operations & Compliance

About the Role

A leading clean energy developer is seeking a Senior Manager to oversee market registration and operational compliance programs across regional transmission organizations (RTOs) and independent system operators (ISOs). This role involves building and leading a team responsible for ensuring compliance with market participant rules and regulations, managing portal access, and maintaining program policies.

The position is based in Chicago and requires strong knowledge of electricity markets, regulatory compliance, and project management. The Senior Manager will work with limited oversight and collaborate across departments. This role includes direct reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and execution of RTO/ISO market registration and compliance deliverables.
  • Build and manage a team to support program operations.
  • Serve as the administrator for RTO/ISO portal access.
  • Develop and maintain program policies and procedures.
  • Monitor market rule changes and ensure timely implementation.
  • Maintain a working understanding of project operations and business processes.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Finance, Economics, Electrical Engineering, or Regulatory Compliance.
  • 5+ years of experience in RTO/ISO registration and operational compliance leadership.
  • Proven experience managing direct reports.
  • Familiarity with organized power markets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat, and compliance tracking tools.
  • Experience designing and implementing complex processes.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MBA or JD) preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of PJM, SPP, and ERCOT markets.
  • 3+ years of experience with electricity market operations (e.g., day-ahead, real-time, capacity, ancillary services).
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent judgment and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel 5-10%.
