Senior Mechanical Engineer - Power Plant

Position Summary

A not-for-profit energy provider is seeking a seasoned engineering professional to oversee and coordinate technical activities that support the operation and maintenance of a large-scale power generation facility. This role focuses on enhancing system reliability, operability, and maintainability while managing capital and major expense projects to ensure they are delivered on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update engineering standards and procedures in line with technological advancements.

  • Manage external consultants and contractors to ensure timely and contract-compliant project delivery.

  • Evaluate engineering proposals and collaborate with leadership to determine optimal solutions.

  • Review internal design modifications for completeness and relevance.

  • Assess vendors for their ability to supply reliable and maintainable systems and equipment.

  • Lead or participate in studies related to system design, operability, and maintainability.

  • Prepare technical specifications and engineering drawings for procurement.

  • Develop project budgets and long-term capital plans.

  • Inspect major plant equipment including turbines, boilers, and environmental systems.

  • Conduct feasibility studies and recommend engineering solutions for complex issues.

  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and oversee project execution.

  • Generate progress reports covering design, construction, budgeting, and manufacturing.

  • Facilitate training programs and promote a culture of safety and compliance.

  • Support environmental and regulatory compliance, including NERC standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Florida preferred.

  • Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience in power generation or heavy industrial settings.

  • Proven experience in technical specification development, economic analysis, and complex problem-solving.
