Structural Engineer - Forensic Investigations

Overview

We are partnered with a well-established engineering consultancy to appoint a Structural Engineer into their forensic investigations team in the Minneapolis market.

This role offers a different path from traditional design, focusing on understanding structural performance, investigating failures, and delivering clear, defensible technical conclusions.

It's a strong opportunity for engineers who enjoy working across site inspections, problem solving, and client interaction, with the ability to build a long-term specialism within a stable and growing business.

About the Company

This organisation is a long-standing leader within the forensic engineering space, recognised for delivering technically rigorous and defensible work across complex, high-stakes projects.

Operating within a broader multidisciplinary engineering platform, the company has experienced significant growth over the past two years while retaining a dedicated focus on forensic investigations.

They provide access to expertise across multiple disciplines, including structural, MEP, fire, and industrial engineering, allowing engineers to work on a wide range of technically diverse projects.

Their model combines:

  • Long-term stability
  • Strong technical credibility

Evaluate causes of structural failure including:

  • Foundation movement
  • Construction or design defects
  • Fire or explosion damage
  • Environmental or loading impacts

Produce clear, well-structured technical reports with defensible conclusions

Communicate findings directly with clients, contractors, and internal teams

Take ownership of projects from initial assessment through to resolution

Collaborate with internal experts across multiple engineering disciplines

Contribute to continuous improvement in processes, reporting, and client delivery

What They're Looking For

8+ years experience within structural or civil engineering

Professional Engineer (PE), or working toward licensure

Experience within:

  • Structural inspections
  • Repair or rehabilitation design
  • Site or field-based engineering work

Strong written communication skills, particularly in report writing

Comfortable working independently in a remote environment

A curious, proactive mindset with an interest in problem solving and investigation

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Opportunity to move away from repetitive design work into investigation and analysis
  • Exposure to a wide range of projects across commercial, industrial, and specialist sectors
  • Strong onboarding, training, and technical support structure
