Role Overview
We are seeking a Tokyo‑based Sustainability Consultant to support and execute regional sustainability initiatives across Japan. The role requires excellent bilingual communication (with around 50% of the work conducted in Japanese) and frequent interaction with international teams, including global headquarters in Europe.
This position supports strategic sustainability, carbon, and energy‑related programs across data centre operations, regulatory compliance, and corporate reporting. Physical presence in the Tokyo office is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of sustainability and energy transition initiatives across the Japan data centre portfolio.
- Serve as the primary liaison for Japanese‑language communications with internal teams, partners, vendors, and regulatory bodies.
- Collaborate closely with global sustainability leaders to ensure regional alignment on decarbonisation strategies.
- Assist in preparing sustainability and energy reporting, including emissions data, regulatory filings, and client requests.
- Conduct research on Japanese environmental regulations, renewable energy options, and sustainability market developments.
- Support cross‑functional projects related to energy efficiency, green building standards, and long‑term sustainability planning.
- Produce written materials, presentations, and briefs in both English and Japanese.
- Contribute to fostering a culture of continuous learning and sustainability awareness across the organisation.
Qualifications & Experience
- High level of motivation with strong willingness and ability to learn.
- Native‑level Japanese proficiency (written and spoken).
- Strong English capability, enabling effective collaboration with global HQ teams.
- Background in sustainability or energy (experience moving from one area to the other is welcomed).
- Open‑minded, adaptable, and quick to learn within technical or operational environments.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to work across multicultural teams.
- Ability to work on‑site at the Tokyo office.
