Roadway Design Engineer (EIT)
Location: Dallas-Fort Worth, TX
Position Summary
We are seeking a Roadway Design Engineer (EIT) to support the planning, design, and delivery of municipal transportation infrastructure projects throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. This role will focus heavily on roadway, paving, drainage, intersection, and complete streets projects for municipal clients including the City of Dallas, City of Fort Worth, and surrounding North Texas communities.
The ideal candidate will have experience developing roadway design plans, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and supporting projects from preliminary engineering through final PS&E delivery.
Responsibilities
- Prepare roadway design plans, profiles, cross sections, and construction documents for municipal infrastructure projects.
- Support the design of roadway reconstruction, widening, intersection improvements, streetscape, and ADA compliance projects.
- Assist with drainage analysis, utility coordination, traffic control plans, and quantity calculations.
- Develop engineering plans and specifications using Civil 3D, OpenRoads, and related design software.
- Coordinate with project managers, utility providers, subconsultants, and municipal agencies.
- Participate in meetings with clients, stakeholders, and design teams throughout project development.
- Assist in preparing engineering reports, cost estimates, and technical memorandums.
- Ensure designs comply with local municipal standards, TxDOT requirements, and applicable engineering practices.
- Support multiple projects simultaneously while meeting quality and schedule expectations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
- Texas EIT certification required.
- 3+ years of roadway or transportation design experience.
- Experience working on municipal roadway and infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with City of Dallas, City of Fort Worth, or other North Texas municipal design standards preferred.
- Proficiency with Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads Designer.
- Strong understanding of roadway geometry, drainage design, utility coordination, and PS&E development.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Desire to obtain PE licensure in Texas.
