Design Manager, Architecture (Hyperscale Data Centers)

Location: Singapore

Overview

Our client, a leading hyperscale data center developer, is looking for an experienced Design Manager, Architecture to lead architectural design delivery for large-scale, mission-critical data center developments across Singapore and APAC.

This role will play a key part in shaping efficient, scalable, and compliant data center designs, working closely with internal teams and external consultants to deliver high-performance assets aligned with hyperscale standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architectural design delivery across all project phases, including feasibility, concept design, schematic development, detailed design, and construction support.

  • Develop and drive design strategies that align with hyperscale requirements such as scalability, modularity, operational efficiency, and speed to market.

  • Manage and coordinate external architectural consultants, ensuring design quality, consistency, and alignment with project objectives and timelines.

  • Review and oversee architectural drawings, specifications, and design documentation, ensuring compliance with internal standards, international best practices, and local regulatory requirements.

  • Work closely with civil & structural, MEP, and development teams to ensure fully integrated and coordinated design solutions.

  • Lead design discussions with regulatory authorities (e.g., BCA, URA, SCDF) and manage submission processes to secure timely approvals.

  • Support tendering activities, including preparation and review of design documentation, and contractor bid evaluation.

  • Review and manage contractor-led detailed design and shop drawings, ensuring design intent is maintained throughout execution.

  • Provide site support during construction, resolving design-related issues and ensuring works are executed in accordance with approved plans.

  • Drive design optimization and value engineering, balancing cost, functionality, and program requirements.

  • Coordinate with stakeholders including clients, consultants, contractors, and suppliers, ensuring effective communication across complex projects.

  • Support testing, commissioning, and handover phases, including documentation and post-project design matters.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from a recognized institution.

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in architectural design and design management within Singapore or Southeast Asia.

  • Proven experience in delivering large-scale developments, such as:

    • Data centers (highly preferred)
    • Industrial, logistics, or mission-critical facilities
  • Prior experience working in a developer, design management, or client-side environment is highly preferred.

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Singapore building codes and approval processes (BCA, URA, SCDF)
    • Regional SEA project delivery practices
    • International design standards and best practices
  • Demonstrated experience in managing consultants and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.

  • Strong knowledge of construction detailing, materials, and site execution practices.

  • Ability to manage fast-track projects with tight delivery timelines typical of hyperscale developments.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and hands-on project delivery experience, including site coordination.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across international teams.

  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
