Electrical/Mechanical Design Lead

POSITION OVERVIEW
A leading technology infrastructure provider is seeking an experienced Electrical/Mechanical Design Lead to join their growing team in Sydney. This is a strategic, cross-disciplinary role offering full lifecycle project exposure and the opportunity to represent the organization in high-impact data center developments.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Lead electrical/mechanical design efforts across multiple data center projects
* Act as the primary liaison with external consultants, contractors, and clients
* Oversee design from tendering through to handover, ensuring compliance, quality, and performance
* Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align design with operational, commercial, and sustainability goals
* Ensure all systems meet Australian standards, codes, and data center best practices
* Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers across both disciplines
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
* 10+ years of combined electrical and/or mechanical design experience, ideally within the data center or critical infrastructure space
* Proven ability to manage complex, multidisciplinary projects and coordinate with diverse teams
* Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
* Familiarity with Australian standards and regulatory requirements for both electrical and mechanical systems
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
Electrical Systems:
* Detailed understanding of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), diesel generators, electrical switchgear, PDUs, and ATS/STS systems
* Deep knowledge of LV and HV systems, including redundancy principles (e.g., distributed and block redundancy)
* Proficient in fault level modeling, protection schemes, and high-voltage distribution systems
* Familiarity with relays, transformers, earthing, and switching systems
Mechanical Systems:
* Detailed understanding of chilled water plants, CRAC/CRAH units, AHUs, and evaporative cooling systems
* Strong grasp of mechanical redundancy strategies (e.g., N+1, 2N) and airflow/thermal management
* Proficient in HVAC system design, CFD modeling, and energy efficiency optimization
* Knowledge of mechanical protection systems, including leak detection and emergency ventilation
