Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineering Manager to lead the engineering efforts for utility-scale renewable energy projects in New Zealand. Based in Australia or New Zealand, the successful candidate will oversee the technical design, engineering coordination, and execution of solar PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS), ensuring compliance with local standards and project requirements. This role requires occasional travel to project sites in New Zealand.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all engineering aspects of utility-scale solar and BESS projects from development through to construction and commissioning.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, external consultants, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
  • Review and approve electrical designs, grid connection studies, and technical specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with New Zealand and Australian standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and project team members.
  • Support procurement activities by evaluating technical proposals and vendor capabilities.
  • Conduct site visits to oversee construction progress and resolve technical issues.
  • Collaborate with the development and project management teams to optimize project designs and performance.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in engineering roles within the renewable energy sector, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial capacity.
  • Proven experience in utility-scale solar PV and/or BESS projects.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, grid integration, and power system studies.
  • Familiarity with New Zealand's regulatory and grid connection frameworks is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites in New Zealand.
