Geotechnical Principal
Overview
A highly respected, employee-owned engineering and consulting firm is seeking a Principal-level professional to lead and grow its Gulf Coast operations, based out of Houston. This role offers a unique opportunity for a senior leader to take ownership of regional strategy, strengthen long-standing client relationships, and drive new business across transportation and public infrastructure markets.
The successful candidate will be a proven technical and market leader with the ability to balance client development, strategic growth, and leadership oversight within a firm known for its strong reputation and collaborative culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for Gulf Coast operations, with Houston as the primary office
- Act as a trusted advisor to existing transportation and public-sector clients
- Lead business development efforts, including identifying new opportunities, winning work, and expanding key accounts
- Strengthen presence across transportation, public infrastructure, and municipal markets (DOTs, cities, counties, special districts)
- Collaborate with technical and operational teams to ensure consistent project delivery and quality standards
- Mentor and develop senior staff, helping build long-term leadership depth within the region
- Represent the firm externally at client meetings, industry events, and professional associations
- Support cross-office collaboration to leverage national technical expertise for regional clients
- Travel periodically across the Gulf Coast region as required
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience in geotechnical, civil, or related engineering disciplines
- Strong background in Transportation and Public Infrastructure markets
- Demonstrated ability to win, manage, and grow client relationships
- Established relationships with TxDOT, municipal, or regional public agencies strongly preferred
- Experience operating at a Principal, Senior Principal, or equivalent leadership level
- Clear understanding of Gulf Coast geotechnical and infrastructure challenges
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required (Texas preferred or ability to obtain)
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to grow within an established, reputable firm
- Willingness to be Houston-based with some regional travel
