Position Overview

We are seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to support, maintain, and improve automation systems used in critical utility operations. This role combines hands-on troubleshooting, control system design, field support, and project execution. Depending on experience level, candidates may focus on daily operational support or lead controls projects from design through implementation.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in PLCs, HMIs, industrial networking, and process control systems who enjoys a balance of office, remote, and field work.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain industrial control systems to ensure reliable facility operations.
  • Assist with or lead the design, configuration, and deployment of automation and process control solutions.
  • Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, instrumentation, communications networks, and electrical control systems.
  • Review and develop control system documentation, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Coordinate with operations personnel, contractors, and vendors during installations and upgrades.
  • Support startup, testing, and commissioning activities for automation projects.
  • Participate in equipment selection, procurement, and system improvement initiatives.
  • Help establish and maintain engineering standards, control strategies, and best practices.
  • Provide technical support for ongoing maintenance and operational needs.
  • Travel occasionally to facilities throughout Arizona for project and field support.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, Information Technology, or a related technical field; equivalent experience considered.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in industrial automation, controls, electrical systems, networking, or maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of PLC and HMI programming and configuration.
  • Familiarity with industrial networking concepts, Windows environments, and database fundamentals.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and use common electrical test equipment.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to work in both office and field environments.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Ability to pass background screening, reference checks, and pre-employment drug testing.
  • Willingness to work outdoors and in varying environmental conditions as necessary.

Compensation

Salary Range: $80,000 - $115,000+, depending on experience, technical expertise, and overall qualifications.
