Mechanical Estimator

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly analytical and detail-oriented Mechanical Estimator to join our preconstruction team in Austin. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for mechanical systems, including HVAC and plumbing, for commercial and industrial construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical systems, construction processes, and market pricing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare detailed mechanical cost estimates.
• Perform quantity take-offs for HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems using digital tools and software.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitive pricing.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients during the bidding and preconstruction phases.
• Develop and maintain historical cost databases and unit pricing.
• Participate in value engineering and design-build efforts to optimize project costs.
• Assist in preparing bid proposals, scopes of work, and schedules.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 3+ years of experience in mechanical estimating within the commercial construction industry.
• Proficiency in estimating software such as Trimble, QuickPen, or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems, materials, and installation practices.
• Familiarity with local building codes and industry standards.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with design-build and negotiated projects.
• Familiarity with BIM coordination and 3D modeling tools.
• Knowledge of Austin-area subcontractor market and pricing trends.
