Position Summary:

The Water Treatment Superintendent is responsible for the overall management, operation, and maintenance of the municipal water treatment facility and distribution system. This position ensures compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including those set by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations of the water treatment plant and distribution system.
  • Ensure compliance with Michigan's Safe Drinking Water Act and other regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate plant operators and maintenance staff.
  • Develop and manage the department's budget, including capital improvement planning.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate with engineering consultants and contractors on system upgrades and repairs.
  • Respond to water quality issues, system failures, and emergency situations.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures.
  • Conduct inspections of equipment and facilities to ensure optimal performance.
  • Participate in community outreach and public education regarding water quality and conservation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in environmental science, civil engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in water treatment operations, including supervisory experience.
  • Valid Michigan driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
