Professional Land Surveyor
A growing engineering and survey firm is seeking a full-time, experienced Professional Land Surveyor to join its team. This role involves leading technically complex survey projects, managing project delivery, mentoring staff, and supporting business growth initiatives. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, a deep understanding of the design, engineering, and surveying industry, and a commitment to professional excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Surveying & Project Management
- Perform and oversee all aspects of surveying, including construction staking, ALTA/NSPS surveys, plats, deeds, legal descriptions, boundary research, and analysis.
- Apply advanced knowledge of surveying technology and methodologies, including GPS principles, robotic total stations, and related tools.
- Plan, lead, direct, and monitor large, technically complex projects throughout the entire project lifecycle.
- Assume full responsibility for project delivery, ensuring quality, scope, schedule, and budget objectives are met.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining high standards of accuracy, efficiency, and client satisfaction.
- Coordinate with internal team members to ensure schedules, budgets, quality standards, and agency requirements are achieved.
- Manage the financial performance of projects in coordination with internal project leadership and accounting staff.
- Establish and maintain strong client relationships on technical and project administration matters.
- Support marketing and business development efforts, including leading pursuits of new project opportunities.
- Follow, enforce, and continuously improve established QA/QC procedures.
- Apply advanced technical expertise to deliver high-quality, cost-effective surveying solutions.
Leadership & Staff Development
- Supervise, mentor, and develop survey staff to support individual career growth and office expansion.
- Assign, review, and approve technical documentation, drawings, and survey deliverables.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to staff.
- Assist with staff management activities, including workload balancing, performance evaluations, training, and professional development.
- Participate in recruiting and retention efforts to attract high-quality talent and support long-term growth.
- Be accountable for team performance, productivity, and results.
- Foster a collaborative, professional, and respectful work environment.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS).
- 8+ years of relevant surveying experience, including 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
- Comprehensive understanding of the design, engineering, and surveying industry.
- Strong knowledge of regional and local market drivers and industry trends.
- Proven experience managing technically complex projects from initiation through completion.
- Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets, schedules, and financial performance.
- Excellent technical, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Strong work ethic and a high regard for the surveying profession.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with clients, agencies, and multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience delivering projects in both public and private sector markets.
- Knowledge of federal contracting requirements and compliance standards.
- Experience supporting client development, proposals, and pursuit efforts.
