Job Title: Building Automation Systems (BAS) Estimator
Location: Remote (United States)
Office Location: Harrisburg, PA (no relocation required)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Building Automation Systems (BAS) Estimator to support the development of accurate, competitive cost estimates for building automation and controls projects. This role is fully remote and open to candidates located anywhere in the United States, with collaboration alongside a team based out of our Harrisburg, PA office.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in commercial BAS estimating, understands controls scopes from concept through construction documents, and is comfortable working across sales, engineering, and project delivery teams. Experience with Schneider Electric EcoStruxure-based solutions is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for building automation and controls projects, including material, labour, software, and subcontractor costs
- Review project documentation including plans, specifications, sequences of operation, and RFPs
- Develop scopes of work, clarifications, assumptions, and exclusions for proposals
- Collaborate with sales, engineering, and operations teams to ensure estimates align with technical and commercial requirements
- Support value engineering efforts and alternative system designs when required
- Evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes and incorporate them into final estimates
- Assist with proposal development, including pricing summaries and technical narratives
- Maintain estimating tools, databases, and historical cost information
- Participate in handoff meetings to support a smooth transition from estimating to project execution
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience estimating building automation or HVAC controls projects
- Strong understanding of commercial BAS systems, architectures, and typical scopes
- Familiarity with industry standards and protocols (e.g. BACnet, IP-based networks)
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and control sequences
- Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and standard estimating tools
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating with distributed teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience estimating Schneider Electric EcoStruxure-based BAS solutions
- Background with other major BAS platforms (e.g. Tridium Niagara, Siemens, Honeywell, Johnson Controls)
- Exposure to design-build and plan-and-spec project delivery models
- Understanding of lifecycle costs, service considerations, and long-term BAS value
- Prior experience supporting proposals for large or multi-site commercial projects
