Job Description: Finance Manager

Location: Tokyo, Japan
Languages: English & Chinese (preferred)
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports to: Headquarters (HQ) & Japan Country Manager

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Finance Manager to oversee financial operations in Japan. This position will play a key role in monthly closing, financial reporting, budgeting, and audit support. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail‑oriented, and capable of partnering closely with both the Japan Country Manager and HQ teams.

This role also offers future leadership potential, with the opportunity to manage a small finance team as the business continues to expand.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations & Reporting

  • Oversee monthly financial closing, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for HQ.
  • Develop and maintain reporting materials, financial dashboards, and variance analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with local accounting standards and internal financial policies.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Coordinate and prepare the annual budget for the Japan entity.
  • Support forecasting cycles and trend analysis to assist strategic decision-making.
  • Work closely with the Japan Country Manager to monitor business performance.

Audit & Compliance

  • Support annual audit processes, coordinating with external auditors.
  • Ensure tax compliance and proper documentation of financial activities.
  • Maintain internal controls and help streamline financial processes.

Team Leadership (Long-Term)

  • Opportunity to build and manage a small finance team as the business grows.
  • Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to junior staff members.

Requirements

  • Solid experience in finance, accounting, or financial management (industry‑agnostic; multinational experience is a plus).
  • Strong understanding of monthly closing, financial reporting, budgeting, and audit processes.
  • Business-level English and Chinese (spoken and written).
  • Bookkeeping or accounting certification is preferred (e.g., Japan Bookkeeping Level 2 or equivalent).
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership, and proactively improve processes.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across countries and cultures.
  • Based in Tokyo or willing to relocate.
