Senior Design Engineer

Overview

A leading environmental consulting firm with a national presence is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join its Industrial Water Practice. This position supports the organization's mission of delivering high-quality, sustainable solutions in water and wastewater infrastructure for industrial and private sector clients.

The role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact in a firm known for its technical excellence, collaborative culture, and commitment to diversity and inclusion. You will work with a passionate, multidisciplinary team focused on delivering innovative water solutions across the U.S.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design efforts for industrial water and wastewater treatment facilities.

  • Manage and execute engineering work on small to medium-sized projects.

  • Oversee project budgets, schedules, and quality assurance.

  • Provide technical leadership, coordinating and executing engineering assignments independently.

  • Innovate or improve processes, equipment, or materials through advanced technical problem-solving.

  • Support business development efforts through proposal writing, interviews, and contract discussions.

  • Maintain strong relationships with existing clients and support ongoing project success.

  • Coordinate with subconsultants and project stakeholders.

  • Represent the company in professional associations and industry events at various levels.

  • Occasional travel as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering.

  • 10-15 years of experience in water/wastewater system design, with an emphasis on treatment processes and infrastructure.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain licensure upon hire.

  • Demonstrated success in managing design projects, including budget, scheduling, and technical deliverables.

  • Strong background in preliminary and detailed design for treatment plants and conveyance systems.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience presenting to clients and stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to deliver projects within scope, on time, and on budget.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Chemical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering.

  • Experience with water reuse systems, reclaimed water distribution, and wastewater collection networks.
