Senior Drainage Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Transportation Drainage Engineer to lead the design and delivery of drainage and stormwater systems for complex transportation infrastructure projects. This role will play a key part in ensuring technical excellence across roadway, highway, and transit-related projects, while supporting project delivery teams and mentoring junior staff.

Project Delivery & Technical Leadership

  • Lead drainage design for transportation projects, including highways, roadways, and transit corridors
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analyses for stormwater systems, culverts, storm sewers, and open channel flow
  • Develop drainage reports, calculations, and construction plans in accordance with DOT and local agency requirements
  • Ensure designs meet regulatory standards for stormwater management, erosion control, and water quality

Design & Analysis

  • Utilize industry-standard tools such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, MicroStation/OpenRoads, and/or Civil 3D to develop drainage solutions
  • Design stormwater management systems including detention/retention basins, conveyance systems, and outfalls
  • Coordinate utility impacts, roadway design integration, and environmental constraints
  • Support floodplain analysis, permitting, and mitigation strategies

Project Coordination

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including roadway, structures, environmental, and planning groups
  • Coordinate with DOTs, municipalities, and regulatory agencies
  • Support project managers in scope development, budgeting, and scheduling
  • Provide QA/QC review of drainage designs and technical deliverables

Mentorship & Team Support

  • Mentor junior engineers and technical staff in drainage design and analysis
  • Provide technical guidance and promote best practices across project teams
  • Contribute to internal standards and process improvements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • 8-15+ years of experience in transportation drainage or water resources engineering
  • Strong experience with hydrology and hydraulic modeling for infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with DOT drainage design criteria and permitting requirements
  • Proficiency in relevant design and modeling software (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, MicroStation/OpenRoads, Civil 3D, etc.)
