Overview
Our client is a leading renewable energy developer with a growing presence in Japan. As part of their continued expansion, they are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to support the development, financing, and execution of utility-scale renewable energy projects.
This role will play a key part in advising on project finance transactions and EPC contracting, working closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to drive successful deal execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal support across the full project lifecycle, from development through to financing and construction
- Lead and negotiate project finance documentation, including loan agreements, security packages, and related contracts
- Advise on and negotiate EPC contracts and other construction-related agreements
- Support commercial structuring, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies for projects in Japan
- Work closely with internal teams (development, finance, commercial) and external stakeholders (lenders, contractors, advisors)
- Ensure compliance with local regulations and manage legal risks in project execution
- Support corporate legal matters as required, including JV agreements and corporate structuring
Requirements
- Qualified lawyer
- 6-12+ years of relevant legal experience, ideally with exposure to project finance and/or infrastructure/energy projects
- Strong experience in EPC contracts and construction law
- Familiarity with renewable energy or infrastructure sector is highly preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, international environment
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Fluent in English; Business level Japanese
