Senior Project Manager - Transmission/Distribution/Substation
Overview
A multidisciplinary professional services firm is seeking a Senior Project Manager to support and lead power delivery projects. This role is suited for an individual with a strong electrical engineering foundation, hands-on design experience, and proven project management leadership.
The position partners closely with clients and internal technical teams to manage project scope, schedule, financial performance, and risk, while supporting client growth and mentoring project management staff.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
- Lead end‑to‑end delivery of power delivery projects, including scope, schedule, budget, and risk management.
- Apply technical and design understanding to guide project planning, coordination, and execution.
- Coordinate internal engineering teams and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and quality.
- Monitor project health, address issues proactively, and manage changes such as scope adjustments and change orders.
- Ensure all deliverables meet contractual requirements, technical standards, and quality expectations.
- Lead project meetings, client presentations, and issue resolution efforts.
- Oversee invoicing and accounts receivable for assigned projects.
Client & Portfolio Management
- Develop and execute client strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Maintain strong client relationships and lead contract negotiations.
- Track and meet revenue, backlog, and sales targets for assigned portfolios.
- Support repeat work and cross-selling of additional services.
Proposals & Contracting
- Evaluate new opportunities for strategic alignment (go/no-go reviews).
- Define proposal strategies and coordinate proposal development across engineering and service groups.
- Lead or support contracting processes in collaboration with leadership.
Team Leadership
- Mentor and provide guidance to Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers.
- Facilitate collaboration between engineering, design, and project management teams.
- Set clear expectations with teams and clients and contribute to continuous process improvement.

Required Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or closely related engineering discipline).
- Design experience within power-related projects, such as transmission, distribution, and substations
- 5-10 years of project management experience, including managing scope, schedule, budget, and risk.
- Strong understanding of engineering deliverables and how they integrate with project execution.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and mentor project management staff.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Financial acumen with experience tracking project performance metrics.
- Adaptability and comfort managing uncertainty and change.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or PMP certification (or ability to obtain).
- Experience supporting technical proposals and strategic pursuits.
- Client portfolio and program management experience.
- Contract negotiation and risk management experience.
- Experience collaborating with senior leadership and representing an organization externally.
