Senior Water Resources Engineer / Hydraulics Lead

The Opportunity
My client, a well-established and highly respected engineering consultancy with over a century of industry success, is seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to join their growing team in Richmond, Virginia.
This is a key leadership role, offering the opportunity to drive hydraulic engineering efforts across major transportation projects in Virginia. You will play a critical role in hydrologic analysis, regulatory compliance, and the delivery of complex hydraulic design solutions that directly impact infrastructure development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead hydraulic and hydrologic design efforts for transportation projects
- Deliver stormwater management design and plan production
- Carry out hydrologic and hydraulic stream analyses, including scour assessments
- Prepare and review erosion and sediment control (ESC) designs in accordance with VDOT standards
- Develop and coordinate permit drawings and regulatory submissions
- Manage FEMA Flood Insurance Study (FIS) processes including CLOMR/LOMR submissions
- Apply Hydraulic Engineering Circular (HEC) guidance (including HEC-18, HEC-20, HEC-23) for scour, stability, and countermeasure design
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support project delivery from concept through construction
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (ABET accredited)
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Virginia
- 16+ years of relevant experience in water resources / transportation engineering
- Strong experience with:
- VDOT hydraulics and erosion & sediment control design
- Stormwater management design
- Hydraulic and hydrologic modelling
- FEMA flood studies and permitting processes
Preferred Experience
- Experience acting as (or working toward) a Hydraulics Discipline Lead
- Proven ability to develop full contract documentation, including:
- Plans
- Engineer's estimates
- Bid quantities
- Specifications and special provisions
