System Engineer III
Position Summary:
We are working with a regional electric utility who is seeking a seasoned System Engineer to lead the planning, design, and implementation of transmission and substation infrastructure. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives on solving complex technical challenges, mentoring others, and ensuring long-term system reliability and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement protection, control, and automation systems for transmission networks and substations.
- Perform fault analysis and system studies to validate protection schemes and maintain high reliability standards.
- Manage engineering aspects of new substation builds and upgrade projects, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
- Provide technical support for installation, testing, and maintenance of substation equipment ranging from 12 kV to 345 kV.
- Develop technical specifications, evaluate vendor proposals, and support procurement decisions.
- Ensure all designs and projects comply with applicable safety codes and engineering standards (e.g., NEC, NESC, RUS).
- Oversee equipment testing and inspections, using data to guide maintenance and replacement strategies.
- Lead efforts related to regulatory compliance, including documentation and audit preparation for reliability standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to support operational goals and long-term planning.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Missouri or Iowa preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the electric utility sector, ideally within transmission or generation/distribution cooperatives.
- Strong background in substation systems (69 kV and 161 kV), protective relaying, SCADA integration, metering, and system coordination.
- Familiarity with engineering software tools such as ASPEN and AcSELerator.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Candidates with less experience but exceptional technical aptitude and motivation may also be considered.
