About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Systems Specialist to join our Building Automation team in Austin. In this role, you will support the installation, configuration, programming, and commissioning of automation systems that control HVAC, lighting, energy management, and other smart building technologies. You'll work closely with engineers, technicians, and customers to ensure systems operate efficiently, reliably, and according to design intent.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong BAS technical experience who enjoys hands‑on field work as well as system configuration and troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and test Building Automation System (BAS) components including controllers, sensors, actuators, and network hardware
- Program and commission BAS systems using platforms such as Niagara, Distech, Siemens, JCI, Honeywell, or ALC
- Verify system performance against sequences of operation and project specifications
- Troubleshoot system issues including controls logic, communication networks, and field device problems
- Conduct system calibration, point-to-point testing, and operational checks
- Assist in developing and deploying graphics, alarms, schedules, and trend logs
- Collaborate with project engineers and contractors to support system design and installation
- Provide on-site support, customer training, and post‑installation follow-up
- Maintain documentation including configuration files, commissioning reports, and as-builts
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in Building Automation Systems, HVAC controls, or related technical fields
- Hands-on experience with at least one major BAS platform (Niagara N4 preferred)
- Solid understanding of HVAC equipment and mechanical systems
- Knowledge of BAS communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, or LonWorks
- Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, mechanical plans, and controls schematics
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working in commercial and industrial building environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with system networking (IP addressing, switches, VLANs)
- Familiarity with low-voltage electrical work and commissioning processes
- Niagara N4 certification or vendor-specific BAS training
- Experience integrating third-party devices or subsystems
