Overview
A well‑established, multi‑office engineering firm is seeking a Traffic Engineering Lead to oversee and grow its South Carolina traffic engineering practice. This senior role combines technical leadership, client engagement, staff development, and business growth, making it ideal for an experienced traffic engineer looking to lead a regional operation.

The Traffic Engineering Lead will serve as a subject matter expert, guide project teams, and help expand traffic engineering services across public and private markets.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Provide technical leadership and oversight on a wide range of traffic engineering projects
  • Lead preparation and review of:
    • Traffic Impact Studies (TIA/TIS)
    • Road Safety Assessments and Safety Studies
    • Traffic operational analyses
    • Corridor and intersection studies
    • Signal timing and coordination plans
    • Signing, striping, and pavement marking plans
    • Traffic Control Plans (TCPs)
    • Traffic simulation modeling
  • Perform QC/QA reviews to ensure consistent, high‑quality deliverables
  • Serve as the primary traffic engineering point of contact for clients
  • Support proposal development for DOT, municipal, and private clients
  • Lead, mentor, and grow traffic engineering staff across South Carolina
  • Assist with the strategic growth and positioning of traffic engineering services
  • Stay current on industry trends, regulatory updates, and emerging technologies

Leadership & Business Focus

  • Operate with a strong seller-doer mentality
  • Manage and mentor traffic engineering staff
  • Contribute to scope development, budgeting, scheduling, and staffing plans
  • Balance technical execution with project management and client leadership

What They're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in South Carolina or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • 8-15 years of progressive traffic/transportation engineering experience
  • 3+ years of experience developing and managing staff
  • Certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE)
  • Certified Road Safety Professional (RSP)

Technical & Software Experience

  • Traffic analysis and simulation tools: HCS, Synchro, SIDRA, VISSIM
  • Proficiency with MicroStation and AutoCAD (or equivalent design platforms)
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

  • Strong understanding of project management controls, including:
    • Scope development and proposals
    • Budgeting and scheduling
    • Staff management
    • Quality assurance and quality control
  • Comfortable managing projects while remaining hands‑on with design and technical production
