Water Resources Engineer
An established engineering and infrastructure consulting firm is seeking a Water Resources Engineer to support a range of transportation-related projects throughout Virginia. This role can be based in Fairfax, Newport News, or Virginia Beach and will involve collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across the state.
This position involves technical design work in stormwater systems, drainage planning, and hydrologic and hydraulic analysis. Candidates should be skilled in regulatory compliance, civil site development, and have experience working on public infrastructure projects.
Key responsibilities include:
Performing hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for watersheds and floodplain studies
Designing stormwater management systems, including water quality and quantity controls
Preparing construction plans for storm sewer systems, drainage layouts, and erosion/sediment control
Conducting hydraulic analysis for bridges and culverts, including scour evaluations
Assisting with technical documentation, GIS mapping, and cost estimation
Conducting occasional site visits as part of project support (access to transportation required)
Preferred qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering
5-15 years of relevant experience in water resources or site/civil engineering
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required
Experience with H&H design tools such as HY-8, HEC-RAS, TR-55/TR-20, HydroCAD, PondPack, and StreamStats
Proficiency with MicroStation; familiarity with OpenRoads Designer is a plus
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Collaborative work ethic with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
