Position Overview
The Commercial Manager will play a critical role in overseeing the commercial and contractual performance of key water infrastructure projects across New South Wales. Reporting into the senior leadership team, this position will drive commercial strategy, manage risk, and ensure strong financial outcomes across the project lifecycle.
This role requires a hands on commercial leader with deep experience in contractor environments and a strong understanding of working with asset owners such as Sydney Water.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all commercial and contractual aspects across multiple water infrastructure projects
- Administer and manage contracts, including variations, claims, and dispute resolution
- Provide commercial guidance to project teams to ensure margin protection and risk mitigation
- Oversee cost forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting processes
- Manage and negotiate with subcontractors and supply chain partners
- Support tendering and bid development activities, including pricing strategy and risk assessment
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and governance frameworks
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, particularly Sydney Water and associated delivery partners
- Mentor and develop junior commercial staff within the team
Key Requirements
- Proven experience in a Commercial Manager or Senior Commercial role within a contractor environment
- Strong background delivering infrastructure projects, ideally within the water or utilities sector
- Demonstrated experience working with Sydney Water or similar government utilities clients is highly advantageous
- Deep understanding of standard forms of contract (e.g. AS contracts, D&C, alliance models)
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to manage risk, claims, and negotiations effectively
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or similar
