Project Manager I - Building Automation & Controls
We are seeking a hands-on Project Manager I to support the successful delivery of building automation and controls projects across commercial environments. This role is ideal for a technically strong professional who thrives in the field, enjoys problem-solving, and is passionate about delivering high-quality Building Management System (BMS) solutions.
Working closely with a senior Project Manager (PM II), you will play a key role in coordinating project execution from installation through commissioning and closeout. This is a field-focused leadership position, requiring a balance of technical expertise, team supervision, and customer interaction to ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Project Manager II in all aspects of onsite project planning, coordination, and execution
- Lead and actively participate in the installation, wiring, testing, startup, and commissioning of building automation and control systems
- Supervise and coordinate field teams, including electricians, apprentices, and subcontractors, ensuring productivity and safety compliance
- Perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, and modifications of BAS programs, with a focus on Distech and Tridium Niagara platforms
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including as-built drawings, engineering revisions, and commissioning reports
- Ensure all systems are delivered in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and customer expectations
- Manage day-to-day scheduling, resource allocation, and work prioritisation for field personnel
- Assist in identifying and executing change orders, tracking project costs, and contributing to revenue and profitability targets
- Support project closeout activities, including final inspections, client training, and documentation turnover
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders to provide project updates and resolve issues proactively
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience working with building automation or control systems in a field or project-based role
- Hands-on experience with Distech Controls and/or Tridium Niagara frameworks highly preferred
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, controls wiring, and DDC logic
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex system issues and implement effective solutions
- Experience leading or mentoring field teams and coordinating multiple trades on-site
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction
