A rapidly scaling data center platform is seeking a Director of Mechanical Engineering to lead mechanical design strategy and delivery across a growing North American portfolio. This is a senior leadership role with ownership from early concept and product development through commissioning, influencing standards, innovation, and long‑term operational performance.

The Opportunity

This role sits at the center of mechanical design, execution, and strategy. You'll lead the mechanical function for new and future data center developments, guide design standards and technical decisions, and partner closely with internal stakeholders across development, construction, operations, and sales.

You'll manage a team supporting multiple concurrent projects, balancing cost, schedule, constructability, and long‑term reliability across a large-scale mission‑critical portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Leadership & Strategy

  • Own the mechanical engineering vision across the portfolio, including design standards, best practices, and long‑term engineering strategy.
  • Track and evaluate emerging technologies, evolving codes, and industry trends impacting data center cooling and mechanical systems.

End‑to‑End Project Oversight

  • Lead mechanical scope from site assessment and conceptual design through basis of design, construction documents, and commissioning.
  • Ensure all deliverables align with applicable requirements (design standards, codes, specifications, and operational needs).

Cross‑Functional & Client Collaboration

  • Partner closely with construction, operations, market development, and sales teams.
  • Support technical discussions during the sales lifecycle and act as a senior mechanical SME as needed.

Team Leadership & Quality

  • Recruit, lead, and mentor a high‑performing mechanical SME team.
  • Oversee QA/QC, workload planning, and prioritization to ensure consistent, high‑quality technical delivery across projects.

Target Profile

  • 15+ years of mechanical design experience (ideally 20+)
  • At least 10 years dedicated to data center projects (hyperscale, colocation, or mission‑critical environments)
  • Proven experience leading technical design teams across the full project lifecycle
  • Strong understanding of how mechanical design decisions impact cost, schedule, constructability, and long‑term operations
  • Comfortable operating in complex MEP + CSA environments and managing external A/E partners and vendors

Why This Role

This is a highly visible leadership opportunity to shape mechanical strategy at portfolio scale, with real ownership and influence over how mission‑critical facilities are designed, built, and operated across North America.
