Grading Superintendent - Heavy Civil

Position Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $100,000 - $120,000 base salary (DOE) + Per diem
A well-established General Contractor is seeking an experienced Grading Superintendent to lead field operations on heavy civil and site development projects in the Casper, Wyoming area. This role is responsible for the day-to-day execution of grading, earthwork, and site preparation activities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with plans and specifications. Position Overview
The Grading Superintendent will provide hands-on leadership for grading crews and equipment, coordinate closely with Project Managers and Engineers, and serve as the primary on-site authority for earthwork operations. This position requires strong technical knowledge of grading and excavation, practical field leadership, and the ability to manage productivity, safety, and schedule performance in challenging field conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all grading and earthwork operations, including mass excavation, fine grading, subgrade preparation, and site preparation.
- Lead and supervise foremen, operators, and labor crews; assign daily tasks and manage production to meet schedule and budget goals.
- Interpret and execute work in accordance with grading plans, civil drawings, specifications, and project benchmarks.
- Coordinate labor, equipment, and material needs; monitor equipment utilization and work with maintenance teams as needed.
- Enforce company and OSHA safety standards; lead daily safety meetings and maintain a strong safety culture on site.
- Track daily progress, quantities, and production rates; provide regular updates to project management.
- Resolve field issues related to constructability, sequencing, and site conditions in collaboration with project leadership.
Experience Needed
- 5+ years of experience supervising grading and earthwork operations on heavy civil or site development projects.
- Proven background managing mass excavation, cut/fill operations, compaction, and fine grading.
- Experience leading self-perform crews and coordinating equipment-heavy operations.
Qualifications Required
- Strong ability to read and interpret civil plans, grading plans, and specifications.
- Working knowledge of grading equipment, production rates, and sequencing.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 preferred; strong commitment to jobsite safety.
- Valid driver's license; CDL is a plus.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
