Position Overview
A well-established general contractor in Eugene, OR is seeking a Heavy Civil Project Manager to support and manage a growing backlog of civil construction work throughout the region. This position is responsible for overseeing projects from preconstruction through closeout, with a strong focus on safety, schedule, cost control, and coordination with field operations.
Projects may include earthwork, underground utilities, roadway improvements, site development, and public infrastructure. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working closely with superintendents, subcontractors, and owners.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage heavy civil projects from award through final completion
- Oversee project budgets, schedules, cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting
- Coordinate with superintendents, field crews, subcontractors, engineers, and owners
- Lead project meetings and maintain consistent communication across all stakeholders
- Manage submittals, RFIs, change orders, and pay applications
- Track progress and proactively identify schedule or cost impacts
- Ensure compliance with plans, specifications, contract requirements, and safety standards
- Support estimating, preconstruction, and work planning efforts as needed
- Maintain accurate and organized project documentation
Experience Needed
- 5-8+ years of experience managing heavy civil or civil construction projects
- Experience with earthwork, grading, excavation, and underground utilities
- Background working on public works and/or private civil projects
- Experience coordinating self-performed work and subcontractors
- Working knowledge of cost control, scheduling, and production tracking
- Familiarity with municipal or DOT-style projects preferred
Qualifications Needed
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
- Strong understanding of construction contracts, plans, and specifications
- Proficiency with project management tools such as Procore, HCSS, MS Project, or similar
- Solid working knowledge of OSHA regulations and jobsite safety requirements
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to local job sites
