Lead Transmission Line Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Transmission Line Engineer to join our growing Power Delivery team. In this role, you will provide technical leadership, oversee project execution, and guide multidisciplinary teams in the design and delivery of high-voltage transmission line projects. This is a key position for an engineer who thrives on solving complex challenges and driving high-quality engineering outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering, design, and analysis of overhead high-voltage transmission lines (69kV-500kV+).
  • Oversee project lifecycle activities including scoping, scheduling, budgeting, and resource coordination.
  • Develop and review structure loading calculations, line routing studies, sag-tension analysis, foundations, conductor selection, plan & profile drawings, and specifications.
  • Provide mentorship, technical direction, and quality oversight for junior and mid-level engineers.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, clients, permitting agencies, and construction partners to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards (NESC, ASCE, IEEE), client requirements, and safety regulations.
  • Support proposal development and contribute to business growth by providing expert input in scope and estimating.
  • Manage risk, maintain high engineering standards, and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, or Structural Engineering (Master's preferred).
  • PE license required (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
  • 8+ years of experience in transmission line design, with a history of leading technical teams or projects.
  • Proficiency in PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, and related T&D design tools.
  • Strong understanding of NESC, ASCE, and utility design standards.
  • Demonstrated project management and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work directly with clients and cross-functional partners.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with EPC or design‑build delivery models.
  • Familiarity with environmental permitting, ROW, and routing constraints.
  • Knowledge of structural design of lattice towers and tubular structures.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary T&D projects (substations, distribution, etc.).
