Manager, Power Generation Resources

Overview

A growing power and energy organization is establishing a centralized Asset Management function to support an expanding generation fleet and long-term resource strategy. The Asset Manager, Generation Resources will play a key role in developing this program, serving as the technical and commercial owner of generation assets while ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective plant performance.

This position is well suited for an experienced power generation, mechanical, or plant engineer with a strong background in power plant operations, equipment reliability, and asset performance management. The role combines engineering oversight, operational monitoring, commercial coordination, and long-term asset planning to maximize asset value and reliability.

As one of the first dedicated leaders within this function, the successful candidate will develop asset management processes, monitor asset performance, collaborate with plant operators and commercial teams, and support long-term capital and resource planning initiatives.

This position is being offered fully on-site out of Rockwall, TX.

Key Responsibilities

Asset Performance & Operations

• Monitor generation asset performance, including reliability, availability, efficiency, and equipment health.
• Review operating data, outage reports, and maintenance activities to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Analyze operational constraints and plant performance to support optimized plant operations.
• Provide engineering support related to equipment reliability, performance degradation, and unplanned outages.
• Participate in root cause investigations and corrective action development following significant operational events.

Reliability & Mechanical Systems

• Evaluate the performance of major thermal generation equipment including gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, compressors, pumps, cooling systems, and auxiliary equipment.
• Support maintenance strategies, outage planning, and lifecycle management programs for critical assets.
• Monitor long-term equipment health and reliability trends to improve performance and control costs.
• Work closely with plant operations teams and external service providers to resolve complex technical issues.

Commercial Asset Management

• Serve as the primary liaison with plant operators and third-party operations and maintenance providers.
• Support oversight of operating agreements, service contracts, and other asset-related obligations.
• Monitor asset financial performance, including operating expenses, maintenance spending, and performance impacts.
• Coordinate with energy marketing, commercial, and operations teams to optimize asset utilization and market participation.
• Support compliance requirements and operational coordination with applicable market and regulatory entities.

Strategic Planning & Asset Development

• Support long-term generation planning, capital investment decisions, and asset lifecycle strategies.
• Identify opportunities for performance improvements, upgrades, and cost reductions.
• Participate in technical and commercial evaluations of potential acquisitions, expansions, or new generation projects.
• Develop risk assessment and mitigation strategies for generation assets.

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

• Help establish and mature an asset management program, including processes, reporting tools, and performance metrics.
• Collaborate with operations, finance, accounting, legal, and commercial stakeholders.
• Prepare performance reports and strategic recommendations for senior leadership.
• Represent the organization in technical and operational discussions with external partners and industry stakeholders.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Experience

• 5-10+ years of experience in power generation, plant engineering, operations, reliability, or asset management.
• Experience evaluating plant performance, maintenance activities, and equipment reliability.
• Experience with combined cycle, gas turbine, or other thermal generation assets preferred.
• Background supporting utilities, independent power producers, merchant generators, or large industrial energy facilities preferred.
• Experience managing vendor relationships, service agreements, or O&M contracts is a plus.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience is beneficial.

Skills & Knowledge

• Strong understanding of thermal power generation systems and rotating equipment.
• Ability to analyze technical, operational, and financial data to support decision-making.
• Strong communication and relationship management skills.
• Experience working within organized energy markets is a plus.
