Salary: $125,000 - $170,000 (DOE)
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Landfill Engineer to support a strong and growing portfolio of solid waste and landfill engineering projects across Southern California. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with 8+ years of landfill and solid waste experience who is comfortable leading technical work, supporting project delivery, and mentoring junior staff within a highly collaborative, employee‑owned organization.
The Senior Landfill Engineer will play a hands‑on role in planning, design, and implementation of landfill systems while working alongside a deep bench of licensed engineers and technical specialists.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support a wide range of landfill engineering projects, from planning and design through construction support
- Perform and oversee landfill construction engineering, including grading, liner systems, and construction quality assurance
- Design and support landfill gas systems, including gas capture, conveyance, storage, and control infrastructure
- Prepare and review designs for permeating barriers and landfill gas conveyance systems
- Conduct and oversee site sampling, data interpretation, and technical evaluations
- Prepare technical reports, engineering calculations, plans, and specifications
- Coordinate with project managers, clients, contractors, and regulators to ensure technically sound and efficient project delivery
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal technical development and best practices
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering discipline
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant landfill or solid waste engineering experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, or ability to obtain licensure within 2 years of start
- Strong working knowledge of landfill design, construction, and gas management systems
- Experience working with multidisciplinary technical teams and regulatory agencies
- Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills
