A fast-growing engineering and automation business serving clients across MA, RI, CT and NH, with the majority of projects sitting in the life sciences sector. Work spans new construction, additions to manufacturing process lines and retrofit projects.
The role
The Senior Project Manager will take ownership of multiple complex medium and large commercial construction projects from start to finish - covering pre-construction design and planning, estimating, scheduling, subcontractor and vendor management, quality control, punch list and close-out. The role acts as the primary face of the business to clients, balancing the needs of the wider organisation with those of the customer, and includes managing small crews alongside coordination and scheduling with owners, subcontractors and vendors. Compensation, responsibilities and duties will grow as the successful candidate becomes proficient in the position.
Responsibilities
- Managing construction projects from design through to completion
- Preparing scope of work documents for clients and the construction team
- Estimating project costs and material needs, and carrying out field measurements
- Sourcing and ordering project materials and scheduling product deliveries
- Reviewing job costs weekly for each project, tracking receipts, invoices and reports to resolve cost overruns
- Generating reports communicating work progress, costs and scheduling
- Managing change orders with clients and internal staff to adjust scope, timelines and costs, including client sign-off
- Reviewing submittals, RFIs and document control alongside the assigned Project Coordinator
- Working with internal technical departments on project execution
- Working directly with end-user decision makers including process engineers, technicians, maintenance staff, scientists and IT/OT engineers
- Managing subcontractors across process mechanical and electrical disciplines
Requirements
- 10+ years' construction project management experience
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the construction industry
- Prior experience in a manufacturing and product-oriented business
- Proven ability to identify and resolve complex issues, and to take the lead in unfamiliar or ambiguous circumstances
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with the field, management team and clients
- A polished, professional demeanour with a strong customer service focus
- Self-motivated, disciplined, organised and efficient, with strong attention to detail
- Collaborative team player, comfortable working with senior management and individual contributors alike
- Advanced MS Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Experience using Procore
- Good driving record, reliable vehicle and valid driver's licence
- Willingness to work extended days during planned client shutdowns and occasionally more than 40 hours per week
Desirable
- Bachelor's degree, ideally in an engineering discipline
- Knowledge of instrumentation and controls
- Life sciences experience with both instrument and control background
- PMP certification
