Senior Traffic Engineer
A well-established engineering consultancy is seeking a Traffic Project Engineer II to join its transportation team in western Pennsylvania. The position is based in one of several regional offices and offers a dynamic, fast-paced, and collaborative work environment. The ideal candidate will be a proactive team contributor with the ability to independently lead complex traffic engineering tasks, either directly or through oversight of others.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and review of traffic-related technical documentation, including reports, design plans, calculations, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Perform traffic modeling and analysis using tools such as Highway Capacity Software and Synchro/SimTraffic.
- Design traffic signals, signage, pavement markings, and traffic control plans (Maintenance and Protection of Traffic).
- May act as a Task Manager on smaller-scale projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering.
- Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience.
- PTOE certification preferred.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with MicroStation required; OpenRoads Designer experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with PennDOT, PA Turnpike, and MUTCD standards; experience in Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh is advantageous.

- Serves as a technical advisor in specialized areas.
- Develops innovative techniques and improves existing processes.
- Manages engineering teams and coordinates documentation for multiple major projects.
- Applies risk management strategies to project delivery.
- Mentors senior staff and fosters a culture of creativity, flexibility, and professionalism.
