Structural Engineering - Vice President of Operations
A growing, employee-focused engineering consulting firm is seeking a Director of Structural Engineering / Vice President of Operations to provide both technical and operational leadership for its structural engineering practice. This is a strategic leadership opportunity for an experienced structural engineering professional looking to influence the direction of a respected multi-disciplinary consulting firm with capabilities spanning structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil, surveying, commissioning, and inspection services.
The successful candidate will oversee project delivery, team development, client relationships, business growth initiatives, and operational performance while helping shape the long-term vision of the structural engineering business. The firm serves a diverse client base across industrial, infrastructure, pharmaceutical, municipal, utility, and commercial sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the structural engineering department, including project managers, engineers, and designers.
- Provide technical oversight and quality control on structural projects.
- Drive operational excellence by monitoring project profitability, resource allocation, scheduling, and performance metrics.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, owners, contractors, and industry partners.
- Support business development efforts, strategic planning, and revenue growth initiatives.
- Mentor and develop engineering staff while fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
- Participate in recruiting, succession planning, and organizational growth strategies.
- Review and approve engineering deliverables, calculations, reports, and construction documents.
- Partner with executive leadership to establish and execute departmental and company objectives.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred.
- 12+ years of progressive structural engineering experience.
- Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams and client relationships.
- Demonstrated success overseeing project delivery, operations, and business development.
- Experience working within consulting engineering environments serving industrial, commercial, infrastructure, municipal, or institutional clients.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, utilization, and project performance.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Compensation & Benefits
Base Salary: $150,000 - $215,000, commensurate with experience.
