Structural/Bridge Engineer - Atlanta, GA
Role Overview
In this position, you'll play a key role in delivering structural engineering solutions for transportation infrastructure. The role involves guiding project teams, overseeing technical design work, and producing detailed structural documentation for complex bridge assignments across various materials and configurations.
What You'll Do
- Lead engineering teams in preparing structural analyses and design packages for bridge structures built with prestressed concrete, reinforced concrete, and steel, following current state and national standards.
- Develop complete plan sets for transportation-related bridge projects, including final construction documents.
- Oversee the creation of technical drawings, digital models, and written specifications.
- Plan and organize structural systems with consideration for load capacity, constructability, long‑term performance, and overall project efficiency.
- Review engineering calculations, quantity takeoffs, and related documentation to ensure they meet applicable design criteria.
- Coordinate structural design work with roadway, geotechnical, hydraulics, and other engineering groups involved in the project.
- Ensure internal quality practices and technical guidelines are consistently applied throughout project deliverables.
- Support proposal efforts by contributing technical content and collaborating with business development teams.
- Evaluate proposal drafts to ensure alignment with industry expectations and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in discussions with current and potential clients to understand upcoming project needs and provide technical insight.
- Represent the firm at professional events and industry gatherings as needed to support visibility and outreach.
- Communicate with clients and agency representatives to clarify design questions and update project leadership on progress.
- Mentor junior engineers by providing technical direction, coaching, and opportunities for professional growth.
- Supervise work completed by less‑experienced team members and ensure high‑quality output across assigned tasks.
- Perform additional responsibilities aligned with the scope of the role.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in structural, civil, architectural, or a closely related engineering field.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- At least 10 years of relevant structural or bridge engineering experience.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically or internationally as project needs dictate.
- Equivalent hands‑on experience may be considered in place of a formal degree.
Preferred Experience
- Master's degree in structural or civil engineering.
- Prior experience working on bridge replacement projects for state transportation agencies.
